What Is The Record For The World’s Longest Fingernails

Everyday tasks are performed with longest fingernails. I cannot even image how some people can do that! To answer the question ,, What is the record for the world’s longest fingernails?’’ I would say that Lee Redmond, a woman from Utah, USA holds the record for the longest fingernails. 24 feet and 7 inches is the dimension of these nails. This 64 years woman uses olive oil to take care of her nails. Since 1979 se hasn’t cut her nails. She can be found in the World’s Guinness Book.



Here are the measurements of her nails: Left Hand Thumb 80 cm 31.5 in Index finger 76.4 cm 30.1 in Middle finger 76.7 cm 30.2 in Ring finger 76.2 cm 30 in Little finger 73.6 cm 29 .



Another record is that of an Indian photographer that didn’t cut his nails for almost fifty years. His thumbnail alone resembles a thin and twisted antler like protrusion. It measures 4.8 feet and is coiled up in spirals and tortoiseshell in colour. For 20 years Shridar Chillal has held this record. Because of the weight of these nails his hand is permanently disfigured. I wrote hand because he left just the fingers from the left hand to grow.

The Chinese, Li Jian Ping also didn’t cut his nails for 50 years. Another one worth mentioned is Barbara Wing whose nails aren’t so long but they are beautiful. On her 7 inch long nails she proudly displays 10 Jazzmen.
These extremely long fingernails can cause pain. For 25 years Lauretta Adams tried to break the record but in 1997 she decided to give up. Nails and hair are mostly made of protein so Lee Redmond ate a high-protein diet.

Before Lee Redmond , the record holder for the longest fingernails was Shridhar Chillal but in 2000 he cut his nails. The most dramatic event of Lee Redmond was that she lost her nails in a car accident. She was devastated. But the best part is that she feels her hands very easy  and can do things mush better. She managed to do all the things like a regular person although she admits that it was a little tricky. She said that things like driving a car, cutting the hair of her grandchildren or vacuuming, weren’t so hard to do. Without too many complications she even manages to take care of her husband which is ill of Alzheimer.



I personally am not into these weird hobbies but the world is a big place in which people can do whatever they please as long as they don’t bother others. And this odd hobby is harmless, at least for other, I wouldn’t bet on the ones that are actually wearing them. Seems kind of dangerous and scary too!
