Discolored Fingernails

Discolored fingernails are surely bad signs. They always show you that something is wrong with hour health. Check the color and learn how to treat them. If they are greenish, then maybe you got infected with pseudomonas. White, yellow, purple or dark red nails show also various infections, in 50% with fungi, from air, soil or dust. The most common of them is Trichophyton rubrum, which attacks mostly the skin.

A very unpleasant disease that affects nails is onycholysis, which ends with the separation of the nail from nail bed. In this case, your nails turn yellow. Anemia has often as consequence white nails. Specialists are saying that discolored fingernails can frequently indicate thyroid severe disorders. Nails turn black, when they are infected the painful black fungus.


Red or pink nails show in most cases poor peripheral circulation. If you have respiratory problems, then your nails might be blue. Half pink, half white nails indicate kidney problems, while some small white spots are the result of nail bed injuries. Deficiency of B12 may be mirrored in your nails. In this case they became purple or even black colored. If you observe changes in the shape or color of the nails, you may have problems with your liver, kidney, lung or heart. 1. Whitening tooth paste is a very good nails whitener. Brush your nails with it only twice a day. So is denture cleaner. Soak nails in it for ten minutes and you will have unexpected results.

2. A well-known astringent is lemon juice. Soak your fingers for 20 minutes in it and your nails will be white again. You can also rub your nails with lemon slices, twice a day, for the same results.
3. Mix lemon juice with baking soda. Apply the pasta on your nails and it will do miracles.
4. Mix in a bowl one tablespoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide with three tablespoons of baking soda. Rub it on your nails, wait some minutes and wash your hands.


Discolored fingernails provide important information about the inner state of health. This is the reason why, all doctors pay nails a special attention on every routine examination. They often pinch gently the nail and count the time it takes to the nail to get back its natural color. So examine with attention your nails at least once a week. They immediately change shape or color if you suffer from psoriasis, heart diseases, diabetes, dermatitis, liver, kidney or lung diseases. There are many cases when a common medicine such tetracycline provokes color change of the nails. You should be aware of the fact that smoking is also a great enemy of your nails, having as result discolored fingernails.
